1901 - London

1901Jun24WestminsterProgAfter an apparent gap of two years women’s racing returned to the Royal Aquarium for at least four races - 3 to 8 June,  10 to 15 June, 17 to 22 June and 24 to 29 June. In the final two races there were Men’s sections as well as the Ladies.

However the programme for the 24 June race (opposite) listed a very limited field of six female riders - which may explain the male competitors. All the riders were British professionals it seems.

1. Miss ANDERSON (White)
2. Miss LESLIE (Mauve)
3. Mrs WARD (Pink)

This may have been the last womens’ six day race ever held in Britain ... or indeed anywhere?

Race programme only. See top of page for riders. However there was a letter of recommendation about a Roberts Royal Racer obtained from Symonds’ London Stores from Miss Monie Harwood to the company. It stated that she had won this race with a distance of 229 and 4/5 miles in 12 hours of racing over six days - without any adjustment to the bike. (from the FossilCycle blog)
