1975 - Pijnen and Haritz the Victors

ICS7512W

Pijnen and Haritz at Wembley

Held from 19 to 24-Sep-1975

“TO KEEP THE SKOL 6 at the top of Europe's Sixday league, one is continually searching fora new formula, no easy task when one recalls the finely balanced combination of sport and show provided by the professional cyclists each year.
The answer could not be an increase in athletic performance, for we are already beyond the accepted boundaries of endurance with the chases at more than 30 mph. There is however, the possibility to ensure that the battle on the track is an evenly matched one, by arranging the teams accordingly.
In pursuit of this policy we deviate from our normal practice of contracting national teams and give an opportunity to cyclists who have made their reputations in the road racing classics of Europe to race on our ten laps to the mile track partnered by indoor specialists.
Rik van Linden, Ole Ritter and Leif Mortensen can now be seen in action for the first time at Wembley. Nor has the lighter side of the show been forgotten, with the first time appearance of cycling clown Willy Debosscher.
It is an evenly balanced field, led by track general Patrick Sercu, and with all the ingredients necessary to provide a week of spectacle, excitement and above all hotly contested sport.” Ron Webb, Skol 6 Organiser
